Dr. Suzanne E. Rapley is a Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and an
AASECT Certified Sex Therapist, and Diplomate. She is also certified by the American Board of Sexology
as a Sex Therapist, Diplomate and Supervisor. She has been working in the addictions field for over 30 years.
Beginning practice at a half-way house for recovering drug and alcohol addicted individuals in Berkeley, California,
Dr. Rapley then traveled to Nashville, Tennessee and became Director of Rap House, a 24-hour crisis phone
and drop-in center where drug and alcohol related issues were addressed. After completing her advanced degree
studies at Vanderbilt University, she moved to Boulder, Colorado where she served as Staff Therapist for the
Health Department’s Alcohol Detoxification Unit. Dr. Rapley completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Center
for Family Living, part of San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health in Tarzana, CA. There she worked with both
teens and their families struggling with addiction issues. She then became affiliated with the Ventura County
Center for Drug Problems, working with teens, probationers and their families as well as liaisoning with Ventura
County schools around Drug and Alcohol Prevention Programs. Continuing her interest in assisting people with breaking
free from addictions she took the position of Director of the Lompoc, California based Zona Seca, an outpatient
Alcohol and Drug Treatment Center which also offered programs for the California State DUI Programs. In 1986 Dr.
Rapley became Clinical Director of Kleinbottle Social Advocates for Youth, an agency focusing on providing a multitude
of services to youth and their families of Santa Barbara County, California. In 1989, she began her solo practice in
Santa Barbara, California with one of her specialties being Addictions of Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, Cybersex and the Internet.
Dr Rapley currently treats individuals, couples, and families and facilitates groups on various topics which include
Sexuality and Intimacy Issues. Recently, together with her intern Jonathan Shafer, M.A., she has been offering training to
mental health professionals across the State of California on Internet and Cybersex addiction.

Jonathan S. Shafer is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern working with Dr. Rapley. Jonathan holds a Bachelor's
Degree in Experimental Psychology awarded by the University of California at Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Arts
Degree in Clinical Psychology awarded by Antioch University. Jonathan has received extensive training in the area of
addictions, and is very well-versed in the specific treatment of Internet-based problems. He is currently working under
the direct supervision of Dr. Rapley, and has been treating children, individuals, and couples, and groups for several
years. Together with Dr. Rapley, Jonathan has been lecturing to groups of Mental Health Professionals on the treatment
of Internet and Cybersex addictions. As a practitioner, Jonathan offers a sliding-fee scale to his clients, thereby opening
up low-cost treatment options to many who could not otherwise attend this specific treatment focus or therapy due to
financial hardship and/or cost considerations. Jonathan has an extensive history of business involvement in the Santa
Barbara area spanning almost 30 years. He is currently available to consult with business owners who are dealing with
employees that are abusing the Internet during their work hours in addition to traditional treatment modalities.
